Summer Staples; The Espadrille

Espadrilles have become the staple of Summer this year.
They’ve made their appearance on the runways at Fashion Week (crushing on Oscar de la Renta’s SS embroidered espadrilles) and can move from poolside to chic-day-out with minimal effort. And because they’re super comfy, they’re great to wear throughout the day if running errands or picking up your kids from school.

I’ve also used this palette as a way to include the seasons trending colour into my wardrobe without it being overly obvious. The orange pairs so well with navy, I might hold on to the combination for a bit longer.

I’ve worn my espadrilles with a pair of beige trousers that were slightly more fitted further down the leg.
If you’re younger or prefer to wear them with a pair of shorts, a tan fitted shorts or denim work especially well. I wore them with a pair of shorts over the weekend and extended the laces up my calf, it really felt like I was meant to be on a yacht somewhere!

I especially love this top sourced from Zara with its interesting high-low (still trending months later) length and especially the bow detail on the cuff of the sleeve. With the cooler mornings that progress into warmer afternoons, it’s convenient to simply roll up the sleeve if you’re feeling a bit warm.

And if you’re wondering why I have half a top knot, it’s going to be trending so hard this Summer! It’s just the right balance between having it all the way up, and not quite sure what to do with a mid-length style.

To achieve this look; wash and dry your hair straight. Iron it down to create a sleek effect. Using the end of a section comb, go all the way around the head towards the back to gather the hair as if to create a ponytail. Pull it up and using hairspray begin to neaten the stray hairs in the front and sides. Secure with an elastic band and divide the hair into two. Tie a knot and tuck in and secure with pins. Finally wrap a portion of hair around the bun to neaten. Finish off with hair spray so it all stays in place.
