Product Review | niQi loves Africology

The ethos of the Africology brand is simple, and strikingly visual as you enter their flagship store at the Rosebank Mall, Johannesburg.

“The best moments in life are the ones when we feel most connected to self, in harmony with nature and the world around us.”

Their core collection of ‘Skin Care’, ‘Body and Mind’ and ‘Bath and Shower’ are firm favourites in their brand offering. A walk into (or even past!) their store, located on the bottom level of the The Zone Phase 2 in the Rosebank Mall in Johannesburg attacks your auditory senses.

The large, detailed chandelier above the elaborate table display below lights up the area, with an almost luminosity, much like the promise of most of their products. The table is adorned with flowers, dried rose petals and their range of 7 different Chakra Candles representing each Chakra all perfectly complementing the decor of the store.

I was gifted their Rose Body Balm which according to Africology, “balances our feminine aspect and restores serenity. Roses have always been a powerful symbol, as well as a potent treatment for hormonal, menopausal and sexual difficulties. Africology taps into the power of the rose to calm and restore in this gentle balm. We use Rose Oil to treat dermatitis and aging skin. We love its aroma therapeutic properties, as it is a mild anti-depressant and balances the emotions. It also can help balance hormonal skin.”

I found the Balm rich and forgiving on my skin. Conventional ‘Body Butters’ (also another product offering at Africology) seeps into the skin, without leaving a ‘layer’ on your skin, as the store manager, Rebecca expertly explained. After a week of use, my skin looked and felt beautiful. The scents of their products are heavy, and require very little layering of any other scents thereafter. I recommend using them after a warm evening-bath and wrapping yourself in luxurious pyjamas and getting into bed! Your skin has that after-spa smell and feel, all in the comfort and convenience of your home. The Body Balms double-up as a rich treatment for tired, dry feet. A 125ml jar will cost you R260.

Africology takes special care when presenting their products as gifts. I love gifting people things I would normally love for myself. Africology is now top-of-mind when it comes to gift choices. Expect to find an organza bag in their signature black paper bag filled with dried rose petals and a selection of sample packs, one of which included ‘Sleep Gel’. Being a mommy of 2-month old twins means I get very little, disturbed and interrupted sleep every night. I used it on the first night and fell asleep with ease, and could barely wake up when I needed to! The gel is cool to the touch, and scented with Soothing lavender and calming chamomile essential oils. Affordably priced at R130, this is the ideal gift for someone who has difficulty falling and staying asleep.

In my sample pack, I also received the Conditioning Body Oil which Africology recommends “warming the Conditioning Oil, then apply all over your body for a silky smooth skin, best after a hot bath or shower. Our oil blends beautifully with our Body Lotion and Body Butter to leave your skin with a healthy, hydrating sheen. To create oil this luxurious, we infused marula oil with rooibos and neroli to soften signs of ageing through its anti-stress action. An all-over body serum that is rich in palmitic acid, sealing the skin off from free radical attack.” I proceeded to purchase a bottle after trying out the sample in my gift-bag last week. Now every evening feels like I’ve had a spa experience!

Each of these products will take up residence in my evening body-care regime, especially with the harsher Winter months approaching. When combined, the Africology products work to take care of your skin and mind, putting into your skin only that which is pure.

Their skin-care range boasts an impressive selection of Serums.
Expect to find an Anti-oxidant Serum, for a more youthful, radiant Complexion, the Vitamin Skin-Booster Serum for a more resilient radiant fresh look and the Balancing Serum for a non-reactive, calmer skin.

af13

Africology also has their own unique blend of African Rooibos teas. Customers can look forward to flavours like the Ginger blend, Mint Blend and their Speciality blend all containing high levels of antioxidants and are caffeine-free.

There is also an on-site spa. Sadly there was a treatment in progress when I went into the store so I wasn’t able to view their facilities. A call to the store, or emailing them for an online catalog might be a good option if you’re keen to try out their spa treatments.

We popped into this store about two months ago when we were in Johannesburg. I love Africology products – have tried theirs in small samples as the Westcliff uses this as their bathroom range. What I love most is the naturalness of the product, free from any additives, parabens and harsh chemicals. I do think they’re a bit expensive (for me, since I don’t really even have a budget at this point in my life) but then all products in this class of product are equally expensive.

I loved the look and layout of the store – it quite simply blew me away and the crystals scattered around the store were out of this world! They resonated with me BIG time and have an energy about them that you have to feel to believe!

It has been my desire to have a treatment there at some point in time – their specialist treatments are simply awesome, just the type and energy that I work with on others. When I want to spoil myself instead of treating others, I will certainly visit. So yes, definitely a place to visit again.. and again.. and again :).

Oh, and the rose energy, yes, you’re spot on about that. A powerfully Divine energy and a beautiful essence to use – opens the heart centre, heals pain that shuts the heart centre down, is the gateway to connect with all of life and that which we call God, puts you in touch with your sexual creative energies. Beautiful, beautiful essence.

So happy to be sharing in this space on something I’m SO passionate about – gratitude for giving me this space to share 🙂 <3 xxx
